indy the dragon
Dragons can be found in many different cultures, traditions, and stories all across the world and is resonant in the cultures of all three of our language programs (Chinese, French, German). Alto International School (merged with Silicon Valley International School in 2021), adopted the Teutonic/Germanic dragon as their mascot in the 2017-2018 school year. It became a beloved figure across all grades, as well as a powerful symbol of school’s spirit. INDY’s design was developed by an international design firm, with a committee that included members of Alto and INTL’s administration. INDY’s design spans both Eastern and Western dragon mythologies to appropriately represent the language programs at our school.
Two students from our Elementary Chinese Program and Elementary German Program both submitted the name INDY to our “dragon naming contest" in the spring of 2021. The students' selection represented the word “international.”
